The Epstein Investigation

A factual summary of the Jeffrey Epstein case — key events, named associates, and the questions that remain unanswered. All information sourced from public court records and published journalism.

Overview

Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender who cultivated a network of powerful connections across finance, politics, royalty, and academia over several decades. He was arrested in July 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York.

Epstein was found dead in his Manhattan detention cell on 10 August 2019. The New York City medical examiner ruled his death a suicide by hanging. His death triggered significant public scepticism given the high-profile nature of the case, the failure of suicide watch protocols, and the implications for his powerful associates.

"The Epstein case represents one of the most significant — and most scrutinised — criminal proceedings in recent American history, raising fundamental questions about power, accountability, and the operation of justice."
